<br />R-09-33 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE REQUIRED <br />APPLICATIONS AND ANY OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR $1,002,000 IN <br />ECONOMIC STIMULUS GRANT FUNDING FROM U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY TO <br />INST ALL ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTING AND TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN <br />SIGNALIZATION. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides funding for the <br />Department of Energy (DOE) to issue/award formula-based grants to states, U.S. territories, units of <br />local government, and Native-American tribes under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block <br />Grant (EECGB) Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, City staff has determined the following three projects meet the requirements for <br />submitting a funding application: <br />· Retrofitting four city-owned parking garages with energy efficient lighting and lighting <br />control systems <br />· Synchronization of the operation of the city's 120 signalized intersections <br />· Replacement of 591 incandescent traffic signal heads and 26 incandescent pedestrian <br />signal heads with new light emitting diode (LED) heads at 66 intersections; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City's Recovery Act - Energy Efficiency and Conservation Formula Block <br />Grant is $1,002,000 and requires the submission of a detailed application for award; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the $1,002,000 has already been designated for the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the funding application is due by close of business on June 25, 2009. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia that it hereby authorizes the City Manager to sign any and all documents required to apply for <br />and to accept such funding for the above-cited projects and any other projects that would qualify for <br />such funding. <br /> <br />ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia at a meeting on June 23, 2009. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br />
