<br />Sec. 16-66. Rates for automated containers in the downtown commercial business <br />district. <br /> <br />(a) The downtown commercial business district shall be defined as the area <br />north oflnterstate 264, south of London Boulevard, east of Elm Avenue, and west of the <br />Elizabeth River's Southern Branch. <br /> <br />(b) Where garbage and refuse are stored in automated I 05-gallon refuse <br />containers in the downtown commercial business district, the rate charged for service <br />shall be based on the established rate of $22.00 per container multiplied by the number of <br />pick-ups per week. <br /> <br />(c) For each additional pick-up, a charge of$ 10.00 will be assessed. <br /> <br />Sec. 16-69. Payment of bills; delinquent charges; discontinuance of service. <br /> <br />(a) All charges imposed in this division billed with the statement rendered for <br />water and sewer charges are due and payable as provided for in section 38-93 of this <br />Code. <br /> <br />(b) All other bills rendered under this division are due and payable at the <br />otlice of the city treasurer upon presentation and shall he considered delinquent if not <br />paid within fifteen (15) days of the date issued. If any bill is not paid within such fifteen- <br />day period, an additional charge of one (I) perccnt pcr billing period on the unpaid <br />charges shall be added thereto and collected therewith to cover costs of collection. <br /> <br />(c) The director shall discontinue collecting refuse from a delinquent operator, <br />owner or tenant after giving fifteen (15) days' written notice thereof. A copy of the notice <br />shall be delivered to the city attorney, the health department, the city treasurer and the <br />director of public utilities. The city treasurer shall include the delinquent charges with <br />other taxes or fees to be collected from the operator, owner or tenant, and the director of <br />public utilities may, in addition, discontinue water and sewer service to the delinquent <br />operator, owner or tenant. <br /> <br />Sec. 16-70. Purchase of automated refuse containers (Residential). <br /> <br />The automated refuse containers issued by the city are the property of the city. <br />The property owner or person paying the collection charge is responsible for the care of <br />the container and shall purchase another container from an authorized vendor designated <br />by the city if for any reason the container is unavailabie for use or unusable. <br /> <br />4.
