<br />. <br /> <br />equipment shall not be used after the expiration date or if the package has been breached. <br />If disposable instruments are used, those instruments shall be disposed of in accordance <br />with applicable laws. All hazardous waste, body fluids, and medical waste of any kind <br />shall be disposed of in accordance with the Virginia Department of Environmental <br />Quality's Regulated Medical Waste Regulations, 9 V AC 20-120-10 et seq., as amended, <br />or any successor regulation. <br /> <br />(14) Jewelrv/ornamentation. All jewelry used in body piercing shall be made only of <br />surgical implant grade stainless steel, solid l4K or l8K white or yellow gold, niobium, <br />titanium, platinum, or dense and low-porosity plastic. All jewelry shall be free of nicks, <br />scratches or irregular surfaces and shall be in a properly sterilized condition when used. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />(15) Hand washing and gloves. The body artist shall wash his or her hands with liquid <br />germicidal soap or use a sanitizing solution between customers, between tattooing or <br />piercing different parts of the body on the same person, and whenever gloves are <br />changed. Hands should be washed when visibly soiled. The body artist shall wear <br />protective, disposable latex or vinyl gloves while tattooing, and shall wear a new pair of <br />gloves for each client and when tattooing or piercing different parts of the same client. <br />Gloves shall also be changed for any interruption of service, each time gloves become <br />torn or perforated, or whenever the ability of the gloves to function as a barrier is <br />compromised. <br /> <br />(16) Communicable diseases. No tattoo may be administered by any person having a <br />communicable disease until they have provided a written statement to the Department of <br />Professional and Occupational Regulation from a health care practitioner that the artist's <br />condition no longer poses a threat to public health. Body artists having draining lesions <br />on their hands or face will not be permitted to work until cleared by a health-care <br />professional. Body art should not be performed on any skin surface which manifests any <br />evidence of unhealthy conditions such as rashes, boils, infections, or abrasions. <br /> <br />(17) Client screening and disclosure. Before performing any body art procedure, the <br />body artist shall inform the client that the performance of a body art procedure may <br />involve health risks if the client has any ofthe following conditions or medical history: <br />a) history of diabetes or other immune disorders <br />b) history of hemophilia or other bleeding disorders <br />c) history of skin diseases, skin lesions, keloidal scarring, or skin sensitivities <br />to soaps, disinfectants,etc. <br />d) history of allergies, adverse reaction to pigments or dyes, latex, or other <br />skin sensitivities. <br />e) history of epilepsy, seizures, fainting, or narcolepsy. <br /> <br />. <br />
