AN ORDINANCE TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $31,875 FROM <br />THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL <br />JUSTICE SERVICES FOR THE HIRING OF A TEMPORARY LOCAL <br />PROBATION OFFICER, TO APPROPRIATE SAID SUM IN THE GRANTS <br />FUND, AND TO AUTHORIZE THE CREATION AND FILLING OF SAID <br />POSITION. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the City of Portsmouth accepts a grant in the amount of $31,875 from <br />the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services for the hiring of <br />a temporary local probation officer; <br /> <br /> 2. That the sum of $31,875 is appropriated in the Grants Fund for the hiring <br />of a temporary local probation officer to build capacity within the City's existing <br />community corrections program; <br /> <br /> 3. That the creation and filling of a local probation officer position is <br />authorized for the duration of the grant; <br /> <br />4. That the City's estimated revenues are increased accordingly; and <br /> <br />5. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held <br />on September 28, 2004. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
