AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSmOUth, VIRGINIA, 1951, BY ADDING THERETO A N~,¥ SECTION <br />NLrMBERED SECTION 2-39.1, ABOLISHING THE OFFICE OF CITY COLLECTOR <br />AND PROVIDING FOR THE PERFORA~NCE OF THE FUNCTIONS ~EP~ETOFORE <br />PERFORUZED BY TI~AT OFFICE. <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />Section I: That Chapter 2 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ 1951~ be <br /> <br />amended by adding thereto a new section numbered SecTion 2-39~1, to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-39o1_ <br /> functions. <br /> <br /> From and after July <br /> <br />vacated. <br /> <br />Abolishment of office of City Collector; devolution of duties and <br /> <br /> 1959~ the office of City Collector is abolished and <br /> <br />%%~enever the payment of any money ro or for the account of the city ms re- <br /> <br />quired by the provisions of any statute, charter~ ordinance, contract or other docu- <br />ment~ such paymen~ shall thereafter be made to the City Treasurer, unless specifically <br />othS~,ise provided by ordinance. <br /> <br /> ~Vhsnever the provisions of any statute, charter, ordinance, contract, bond <br />or other document shall specify that any action be taken by or ~ th respect To the <br />City Collector, such action shkll thereafter be performed by or with respect $o the <br />Director of Finance. unless specifically otherwise provided by ordinance. <br /> <br />Section 2: ?his ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the public health, <br />morris and safety, an emergency is declared so exist and it shall take effect from and <br />after July i, 1959. <br /> <br />Section 3: If any par~ of this ordinance shall be for any reason adjudged <br />such invalidity shall not affect the parrs which are not adjudged invalid. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council on J~me 23, 1959 <br /> True Copy. <br /> <br />invalid, <br /> <br />Citf C-~3erk <br /> <br /> <br />
