Sec. 9-40. Powers mud duties of the Electrical Board. ~ne Electrical Board as herein provided shall exmmine all applicmnts for b~ster, Journeyman and Maintenance Electrician and pass upon their proficiency as a Master, Journeyman or ~laintenance Electrician. The Board shall also have the authority to interpret the Electrical Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, mud review upon the request of any aggrieved party, the decision of the Electrical Inspector as to the inter- pretation of the said code. Sec. 9-41. Certificates of Competency required for Master, Journeyman and Maintenance Electricians.' It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to do any electrical work in the City df Portsmouth~ Virginia, ~ntess he or they are qualified and certified as a master e!ectrician~ journeyman electrician or maintenance electrician as provided herein or is employed by a certified electrician so qualified mud certified and works according to directions and under the direct and personal sunervision of a qualified ~nd certified master er journeyman electrician working for said mas~er. Nothing in this ordinance~ however~ shall be eonst~cted to prevent the o~mer of any house in this City from doing his own electrical work provided such homeowner successfully completes en examination d~monstrating his knowledge of and familiarity with the Electrical Code of the City and ~ood wiring practice, and further provided ~hat an electrical permit is obtained and such work meets all requirements of the said Electrical Code and is approved by the Electrical Inspector upon completion. Such person doing his o~ work shall pay the permit and inspection fees required by law. Said examinations shall be given without charge to the homeowner. All other regulations governing re-examination shall bo as set forth in this ordinance. Sec. 9-42. Application for examination; when certificate issued. -4 -
