Sec. 18-32. Driving white operator's, etc. license <br /> suspended or revoked. <br /> <br /> (a) Except as otherwise provided in § 18-33.1, <br />no person resident or noD_resident whose operator's <br />or chauffeur's license or instruction permit has been <br />suspended or revoked by any court or by the Coumzis- <br />sioner or by operation of law!pursuant to the pro- <br />visions of this ch~oter, Title 46.1 of the Code of <br />Virginia, section 18.1-59 of the Code ofVirginia, <br />or any similar law or regulation or who has been <br />forbidden as prescribed by law by the Commissioner, <br />the State Corporation Commission, the State Highway <br />Co~uissioner, or the Superintendent of State Police, <br />to operate a motor vehicle in t~is State shall there- <br />after drive ar$~ motor vehicle or any self propelled <br />machinery or equipment on any highway in this city <br />unless and until the period of such suspension or <br />revocation shall have terminated. <br /> (b) Any person violating this section shall for <br />the first offense be confined in jail no~ less than <br />ten days nor more than six months; and may in addi- <br />tion be fined not less than one hundred dollars nor <br />more th~u two hundred dollars; and for the second or <br />any subsequent offense be confined in jail not less <br />than two months nor more than one year; and may in <br />addition be fined not less than vwo hundred dollars <br />nor more than one thousand dollars. ~ne cou_~t shall <br />no~ suspend the entire jail sentence in any case, but <br />may in its discretion suspend a portion thereof~ pro- <br />vided that this provision, in the discretion of the <br />court, shall no~ apply if the operation of the motor <br />vehicle was due ~o an emergency involvirg dar~er to <br />the health or life of sr~ person, or to property; and <br />provided further that the court ~y in its discretion <br />prescribe that the jail sentence shall be served at <br />such tLme or ~imes as the court ~y direct after con- <br />sidering the cirsu~tances of the person convicted of <br />violating this section. <br /> <br />Sec. 18-33. <br /> <br />Driving while restoration of license is <br />contingent upon furnishingproof of finan- <br />cial responsibility. <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br /> <br />
