'(b) $,3h~uld a ~ember die in service at any <br />time bofore attaining his sixtieth birthday, or <br />should he die in service after attaining his <br />sixti'eth birthday from a cause compensable under <br />the Virginia. ~'~'orl~aen' s Compensat ion Act, ~he ~n~ount <br />of his accm~utated contributions reduced by the <br />~ount of any retirement allowance previously <br />received by him under any of the provisions of <br />this article shall then be payable in a l~ap s~ <br />in accordance with section 26-42; provided tl~at <br />if the ~ount of the member's acc~mlated contri- <br />butions prior to such reduction is less than ten <br />dollars, no such pa~ent shall be made and the <br />member's accumulated contributions shall be nrans- <br />fetter from th~ members' contribution accounn to <br />the retirement allowance account as provide~ in <br />Section 26-28 (f). <br /> <br />Sec. 26-S8. Additional death benefits. <br /> <br /> (a) Should a member, who had one or more <br />years of creditable service die in service a~ any <br />time before retirement from a cause not compen- <br />sable under the Virginia i~orkmen's Compensation <br />Act, an additional benefit equal to one thousand <br />dollars, shall then be payable in a l~p s~m in <br />accordance with section 26-~2. <br /> <br /> (b) Should a member die in service at any <br />time after having attained his sixtieth birthday, <br />from a cause not compensable under the Virginia <br />Wort~men's Compensation Act, there shall be oaid a <br />retirement allowance to the first of the follo~- <br />ina listed persons, if any are alive at the death <br />of the member: Wife, husband, mother, father; <br />such retirement allowance shall be continued dur- <br />ing the lifetime of such firs~ listed person and <br />shall be equal ~o the reduced retirement allowance <br />that would nave been payable had the member retired <br />on the date of his death after hav~ug elected to <br />have his allowance payable under the joint and <br />last survivor option described in subsection (a) <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
