(c) Passenger ~otor vehicles registered in this State and manu- <br />factured after January one, DinL~teen hundred si~y-eight, shall be equipped <br />with lap belts or a combination of lap belts and shoulder straps or h~_~nesses <br />as required to be installed at the ti~ of ~nufa~ture by the federal De- <br />partn~nt of Trsnsportation~. <br /> <br />See. 18-256. Requira~.~nts for safety lap belts, shoulder straps <br /> or harrZesses and co~inatio~ thereof. <br /> <br /> (a) Any safety lap belt or shoulder straps or harness or a~j~ <br />eomb~ation of lap belt and shoulder strap or harness installed i~ a ve- <br />hicle shall be designed and Lnstalled in such manner as to prevent or <br />materially reduce ~ove~r~nt of ~uy person using the same in the event of <br />collision~ or tkoset of the ve'o~cle. <br /> <br /> (b) Tb~ Superintendent shall establish specifications or require- <br />ments for approved type safety lap belts and shoulder straps or harnesses <br />or any combination of lap belt and shoulder strap or ha~ness~ attachments <br />and ~nstallation~ in accordance wit~ the provisior~ of this section~ and <br />such specificatior~ or requirements ~y be the sa~ as those specificatior~ <br />or requirer~ts for safety lap belts or shoulder straps or harnesses or any <br />combination of lap belt and shoulder svrap or harness established by the <br />Civil Aeronautics A~ stration Technical Standard Orders or regulations <br />established by the Society of Automotive F~agineers or the sts~udards of the <br />federal Department of Tra~portatio~o ~ for safety lap belts and shoulder <br />straps or harnesses or combination lap belts s~nd shoulder straps or <br />harnesses. <br /> <br /> (c) No person shall sell, offer or keep for sale any safety <br />~ap belt, shoulder straps or harness ~ or any- co~ination of lap belt and <br />shoulder strap or har~.~ess o_ a~tacmren~s thereto for use in a vehicle, mn- <br />less of s type ~aich has been approv~ by the Superintendent. <br /> <br /> 2.
