Section 5. New emp!o~eeso ' Any .person employed as a policeman or firefighter by the City~ after July l, rog?0, shall receive compensation during the first~ second, third, fourth~ fifth, sixth s~nd seventh yearS Of his employment in ac- cordance with the schedule of pay as set forth above. Section 6. Promotions, Any firefiDhter or policemen who is promoted to a higherlrank shall receive compensation according to ~he rank in whichhe is placed and his length of service. Section L Demotions° ~ny firefighter or policeman ~ho is demoted to a lower rauk shall receive compensation according totherank in which he is placed aud his length of sexY-ice. ~ Section 8. Reinstated firefi~hters and policemen. Any firefighter or policeman who is reinstated~thinone year after he has left the empl~y~.nt of the CitY shall receive compensation acco~iing to the class in which he is placed, but not to exceedthe rate of'pay he would have received had he n~ot left the employment ofthe City. Section 9. Salary adjustments. Salary adjustments based on length of sera, ice shall become ef- fective on the first day of July of each year. For the pUrPoses of this ordinance only, service for a fract~o~mlpart of a year cor~istir~ of six ~onths or more shall be treated as a whole year. Section 10. Overti~ and additional Condensation. (a) Firefighters and policamen shall not recei%~ ~j co~?~nsa- tion for e~raor ove~Lme york, except mn cases of emergency or as her- inafter provided. Any e~ra conpens~ion ~towed r~st be approved in ad- vance of the perforce of the work by the Chief of the respective department withtheappro~lof the City~oager ~lmust be entered oy the'Chief on the ne~ succeeding payroll submitted to the City Auditor. (b) At,thing herein to the contrary not~itb~tandirg, any fir~- fighter or policem~n bel~ the rank of deputy clnief placed on special assignment duty shall be paid at the rate of $4.00 per hour for the time spent on such duty. Such additional co~er~ation must be entered by the chief of the department on the next succeed~_~ pad-roll submitted to the City Auditor. Ail special assignments ~st be authorized by the c_bief of the department, or during his absence or disability, by the deputy chief. O~ertLme work shall not be cormidered speeiai assigrn~nt duty. -2-
