AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF EMPLOYMENT AND A COM~ PENSATION PLUM FOR cErTAIN FIREFI~HTERS AND POLIC~V~M OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. Be it or~n~ued by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- -Section 1. How firefighters ar~ police~n classified, All firefighters and policemen of the City of Portsmouth shall be classified according ~to their rank. Section 2.j How compensation determined. The base pay of each firefight~er and potice _r~n~ bel~ the rank of deputy chief shall be based on his rank and years oz service in his respective department and shall be determiued in accordance with the schedule of pay hereinafter set forth and the other provisions of this ordinance. Section 3. Schedule of pay. Steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the schedule of pay shall correspor~ to the first, ~second, third, forth, £ifth, sixth~d seventh years of a~oloyment in such department.
