herein, and shal~ include all structures, appurt- <br />enances, equipment~ appliances and other facilities <br />~ppu~tenant to and intendad for the operation and <br />maintenance of a s~i~min~ pool, and also all swim- <br />ming pools operated and maintained in conjunction <br />with or by clubs, apartment developments and <br />community associations. <br /> <br /> Sec~ 14-17. Design and Construction Requirements. <br />In addition to such other requirements as may be reasonably <br />imposed by the Director. through Rules and ~egu!a~ions pro- <br />mulgated hereunder, the Director shall no~ ~ssue a permit <br />to construct or approve the construction of any swimming <br />pool or any alteration, addition, remodeling or other im- <br />provement to a swimming pool hereunde~ unless the following <br />design and construction requirements are observed in such <br />construction and swimming pools shall be constructed and <br />maintained in conformity with the following requirements: <br /> <br /> (a) Material. The material used for lining <br />artificial swimming pools shall be one which is <br />light in color, is impervious, and will provide a <br />tight tank with smooth and easily cleaned surfaces~ <br />Sand or dirt bottoms therefor are prohibited- <br /> <br /> (b) Wails, Markings and Slope. The walls of <br />the pool shall be vertical. Conspicuous markings <br />shall be provided showing the location and depth <br />of the shallow and deep portions, and the location <br />and depth of the points where the slope of the <br />bottom of the pool changes. Special markings shall <br />be necessary for large and odd shaped pools as pr~- <br />scribed by the Director. <br /> <br /> (c) Overflow Gutters. Overflow gutters shall <br />be provided extending completely around pools having <br />a surface of 1600 square feet or more. Pools having <br />a surface of less than 1600 squar~ feet shall be pro- <br />vided with either overflow gutters or skimmers. <br /> <br /> (d) Inlets and Outlets. Ail pools shall be pro- <br />vided with an outlet at the deepest point of sufficient <br />siz~ to.permit the pool to be completely drained or <br />emptied, as prescribed by the Director~ The outlet <br />openings in the floor of the pool shall be designed <br />a~d located to reduce suction currents and shall b~ <br />covered with proper grating. Inlets for fresh or re- <br />purified water shall be submerged and located so as to <br />produce as nearly as possible a uniform circulation of <br />water through the entire pool. <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
