AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 406.4 OF THE BUILDING CODE OF <br />THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, 1970, PERTAINING TO SPECIAL REQUIRE- <br />MENTS FOR GROUP "C" OCCUPANCIES. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />1. That Section 406.4 of the Building Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, 1970, as amended, be amended and reordained to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />406.4 <br /> <br /> - SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, GROUP "C" OCCUPANCY <br /> SECTION <br />1. Separation of Boiler and Furnace Room ...... 812 <br />2. Non-combustible Stairways Required... Chapter XI <br />3. Corridors ...--- .....................Chapter XI <br />4. Unilateral Light'''''''''''''''''''' ........ 2OO1.5 <br />5. No classroom shall occupy basement room fifty (50) <br /> percent below ground level. <br />6. Every heating appliance which produces an unprotected <br /> open flame shall be prohibited. <br />7. Storage and handling of flammable liquids shall be <br /> prohibited. <br />8. Where permanent motion picture projectors are used, <br /> booths shall be provided, as set forth in Section <br /> 512.16. <br />9. Small children shall be on first floor. <br /> In buildings of other than Type I and II construction, <br /> children below the third grade shall not occupy any <br /> classroom above the first floor. The lower grades <br /> shall be located in the classrooms nearest the exits. <br /> <br />2.
