rate of $4.00 per hour for the time spent on such duty. Such <br />additional compensation must be entered by the chief of the <br />department on the next succeeding payroll submitted to the <br />City Auditor. All special assignments must be authorized by <br />the chief of the department, or during his absence or disabi- <br />lity, by the deputy chief. Overtime work shall not be con- <br />sidered special assignment duty. <br /> <br /> (c) Anything herein to the contrary notwithstanding, <br />any firefighter or policeman who appears as a witness when <br />not on a regular assigned period of duty, in any criminal case <br />in any court in the City of Portsmouth shall be paid a witness <br />fee of $5.00 for each such appearance; provided however, that <br />only those firefighters and policemen who are necessary to the <br />prosecution of the case may be paid such witness fee in con- <br />nection with the trial of any particular case; and further <br />provided however, that no firefighter or policeman shall be <br />paid more than one such witness fee per day regardless of how <br />many cases or courts he may be required to appear or testify <br />in. Such appearances shall be certified by the Clerk of the <br />Court to the Fire Chief or the Police Chief, respectively, <br />who shall report same to the City Auditor on such forms and <br />a= such times as the City Auditor may prescribe. <br /> <br /> (d) Anything herein to the contrary notwithstanding, <br />any firefighter or policeman who is required to wear civilian <br />clothes in the regular performance of his official duties <br />shall be paid an additional Twenty and no/100 Dollars ($20.00) <br />per month as a clothing allowance. <br /> <br /> (e) Anything herein to the contrary notwithstanding, <br />any firefighter or policeman who has been awarded the Asso- <br />ciate Arts Degree in his profession shall be paid an additional <br />Five Hundred and no/100 Dollars ($500.00) per annum, such sum <br />to be paid in equal installments at the same time as the base <br />salary is paid. <br /> <br /> (f) The additional compensation authorized under <br />subsections (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be in addition <br />to all other compensation, allowances and payments authorized <br />by this or any other ordinance or law. <br /> <br />Section 15. Salary adjustments. <br /> <br /> On and after October i, 1971, salary adjustments to <br />higher steps within a pay grade for persons classified under <br />Section 3 shall become effective on the first day of July for <br />each year.
