(d) Maintenance of privately owned water service con- <br /> nections. <br /> <br /> Except as provided in subsection (e) hereinbelow any <br />privately owned water service connection or portion thereof <br />shall be maintained by said owner or the tenant of the premises <br />served thereby in accordance with the standards of the depart- <br />ment of public utilities and the provisions of this article. <br />Failure to conform to said standards and provisions shall con- <br />stitute cause for discontinuance of service. When such failure <br />necessitates shutting off water service at the tap cutoff valve <br />the owner of such water service connection shall pay the cost <br />thereof and the cost of restoring service before service shall <br />be restored by the department of public utilities. <br /> <br />(e) Repair of road damage between the water main and <br /> the meter. <br /> <br /> ~enever an existing water service line is damaqed be- <br />cause of vehicular traffic on the road above th~ same or caving in <br />the roadway between the water main and the meter, it shall be the <br />responsibility of the department of public utilities to repair <br />such damage and replace such lines as the situation requires. <br /> <br />Section 37A-46. Public fire hydrants. <br /> <br /> Public fire hydrants shall be used for the extinguishment <br />of fires only. <br /> <br /> Public fire hydrants within the corporate limits of the <br />c~ty shall be paid for at the rate of fifty dollars each per an- <br />num. Public fire hydrants located in a city or town other than <br />this city, or in a county, shall be subject to contract, or if <br />no contract is entered i~to for such fire hydrants, they shall be <br />paid for at the rate of s!eventy-five dollars each per annum. <br />Rates for public fire hydrants shall be payable quarterly. Bills <br />for public fire hydrant r~ates shall not be subject to discount. <br /> <br />3. An emergency exists, and this ordinance shall take effect <br />July 1~ 1971, and shall apply to all water meter readings re- <br />corded on and after that date. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the ~ouncil of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held June 22, 1971. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
