Section 37A-36. Water service ~onnections and maintenance. (a) New water service connections. Whenever application is made pursuant to Section 37A-6 for the installation of a new water service connection within the City of Portsmouth or within the Suffolk service area, the appli- cant shall make the payment hereinafter specified. The size and location of any such water service connection shall be determined by the director of public utilities. Such payment or deposit shall cover the following services, materials and labor: Installing water service connection between the water main and meter, shut- off valve at the meter, outlet fitting on meter or metersetter, meter box and meter, all of which shall be owned and thereafter maintained by the department of public utilities. For the following sizes of service connection the indi- cated charge shall be paid in advance: 3/4 inch service connection 1 inch service connection 1 1/2 inch service connection 2 inch service connection 4 inch service connection 6 inch service connection ..... $ 100.00 ..... 150.00 ..... 300.00 ..... 400.00 ..... 1,500.00 ..... 3,500.00 Where the size of the service connection exceeds six inches, the applicant shall be required to pay a charge equal to the actual cost of such installation, plus twenty percent. The director shal~ estimate the charge, and the applicant will de- posit such amount before the work is done. An accounting shall be made of the cost of such installation. If the deposit is less than such charge, the applicant shall pay the difference within ten days, and if the deposit is more than such charge the differ- ence shall be refunded promptly. (b) Whenever application is made pursuant to Section 37A-6 for the installation of a new water service connection out- side the City of Portsmouth and the Suffolk service area, the charges shall be one and one-half times those specified in sub- section (a) above. (e) Repair or maintenance of existing water service connections. Any existing water service connection which was installed prior to July 1, 1962, shall be owned by the owner of the premises served thereby and maintained by the owner or tenant of said pre- mises'unless the owner thereof shall, at the instance of any re- quired repair between the main and the meter, convey said water service connection to the City and make one-half the payment speci- fied in subsection (a) hereinabove. Such a water service connection shall be repaired and thereafter maintained by the department of public utilities.
