· ARTICLE 2. ESTABLISP~4ENT OF DISTRICTS ~ND THE PURPOSES THEREOF. Section 2-1. Districts and Purposes. In order to Lmplement the intentof thi~ ordinance, the City of Portsmouth is hereby divided into fifteen classes of dis- tricts wi~h the designations and general purposes listed below and ~he specifically allowed and permitted uses set forth in Article 4 and Article 9 (Historic District). DISTRICT PURPOSE Industrial M-1 District Primarily for wholesale activities, ware-- houses, andtight industrial Operations; that is, those industrial operations which are not obnoxious oroffensive by reason or emission of odor, dust, smoke, fumes, or noise. Industrial M-2 District Com~aercia! C-t District Primarily for manufacturing, assembling, and fabrication activities, including large scale or specialized industrial operations. Primarilyfor the conduct of retail trade w£th-em~pb~sis .on the p~ovisien of conven- ience goods and services for nearby resi- dential areas. Commercial C-2 District Primarily for the conduct of retail trade, administrative and professional offices, and service to the general public, with emphasis upon large scale stores and specialize~ sho~s serving a trading area of the entire city and surrounding area. Commercial C-3 District Same as Commercial C-2 except that loca- tion is confined to the central business area of the city. Residential R-150 District Primarily a district for single-family detached dwellings on large plots and including the customary secondary uses. Residential R-100 District Primarily a district, for single-family detached dwellings on medium size plots and including the customary secondary uses.
