ARTICLE t PURPOSE <br /> <br />Section 1-1. Purpose: <br /> <br /> The zoning regulations and districts as herein set forth <br />have been made in accordance with a comprehensive plan and design- <br />ed to promote the health safety or general welfare of the public <br />and further to provide for adequate light, air, convenience of <br />accesst and safety from fire, flood and other dangers; to reduce <br />or prevent congestion in the public streets; to facilitate the <br />~reation .of a conveD~ielrt, 'attractive a~d harmonious c~Tm~u~it~7 <br />to expedite the provision of adequate police and fire protection, <br />disaster evacuation, civil defense, transportation, water, sewer- <br />age, flood protection, schools, parks, forests,~ playgrounds, re- <br />creational facilities, airports and other public requirements; <br />to protect against destruction of or encroachment upon historic <br />areas; to protect against one or more of the following: .Over-. <br />crowding of land, undue density of population in relation to the <br />co~unity facilities existing or available, obstruction of light <br />and air, danger and congestion in travel and transportation, or <br />loss of life, health, or property-from fire, flood, panic or <br />other dangers; and to encourage economic development activities <br />that provide desirable employment and enlarge the tax base. <br /> <br /> <br />
