be granted by the genera! laws of this Commonwealth to sheriffs, <br />and such other powers and duties as the council may by ordinance <br />prescribe. He shall qualify before tke circuit court of the city <br />and give bond in an amount to be determined by the council by <br />ordinance, payable to the City of Portsmouth, and conditioned <br />upon the faithful performance of his duties. <br /> <br />Section 7-3. 'Fee~ and compensation of ~igh Constable. <br /> <br /> (a) The high constable shall receive such fees as <br />are now or may hereafter be prescribed by law for sheriffs. The <br />fees collected by the high constable shall be paid into the trea- <br />sury of the city regu!arly~ but not less than once a month. Ail <br />fees an~ commissions of every kind and characterj whether payable <br />by the Com~uonweatth~ the United States~ or by private persons, <br />firms or corporations~ now or hereafter receivable by law or ordi- <br />nance by the high constabte~ shall continue to be paid to and <br />co!!ecte~ by him and shall be paid into the treasury of the city~ <br />except that the city shall.not be required to pay to him any fees <br />or commissions for services performed for such city~ <br /> <br /> (b) The high constable shall be paid a salary out <br />of the treasury of the city as provided by law~ which salary <br />shall be in fu~l compensation for his serv!ces and shall be in <br />lieu of the retention by him of any and alt official fees and <br />commissions of whatever kind or character~ and from ~atever <br />source derived~ the expenses of his office~ includin~ the com- <br />pensation of deputies and emplo~ees~ shall be likewise paid out <br />of the treasur3 of the city. <br /> <br />Section 7-4. Definitions. <br /> <br /> The follo,~ing words and terms, when used in this <br />article, shall, for the purpose of this article, have the mean- <br />ings respectively ascribed to then], except in those instances <br />where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: <br /> <br /> Bail bond. The term "bail bond'~ shall be taken to <br />include every recognizance or acknowledgement of indebtedness <br />conditioned upon the appearance of any person charqed with viola- <br />tion of law before any court or ~udicial officer having criminal <br />jurisdiction~ <br /> <br /> Collateral. The word "collateral'~ shall be taken to <br />include any money, note. stock, bond or any property~ tangible <br />or intangible~ used or put up as security or indemnity for enter- <br />ing into any bail bond. <br /> <br /> <br />
