A~N ORDiN~2NCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />1973, BY A~NDING SECTIONS 31-1 AND 31-91 THEREOF PERTAINING TO <br />THE PORTSMOUTH SUPPLEP~NTALA~ND FIRE A~ POLICE RETIREMENT SYSTEMS. <br /> <br /> Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1973~ be amended by amendin~ Sections 31-1 and 31-91 thereof, <br />such amended sections to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 31-1. Definitions. <br /> <br /> As used in this article, unless otherwise required by <br />the context, the following words and terms shall have the mean- <br />ings indicated: <br /> <br /> Accumulated contributions. The term "accum~!ated con-~ <br />tributions" shall be taken to mean the sum of ~11 amounts deduct~ <br />ed from the compensation of a member as contributions to the <br />system, together with interest thereon at ~he rate of two per- <br />cent per annum from the end of the fiscal year in which each such <br />contribution was made. <br /> <br /> Actuarial equivalent. The term "actuarial equivalent" <br />shall be taken to mean a benefit of equal value w~en computed <br />upon the basis of such actuarial tables as are adopted by t~a <br />board. <br /> <br /> Average final compensation. The term ~'average final <br />compensation" shall be taken to mean the average annual credit- <br />able compensation of a meJ~ber during the three consecutive years <br />of his highest earnings of creditable service or during ~he en- <br />tire period of his creditable service if less than three years. <br /> <br /> Beneficiary. The word "beneficiary" shall be taken <br />to mean any person entitled to receive benefits of any kind <br />under this article because of the death of a m~mber. <br /> <br /> Board. The word "board" shall be taken to mean the <br />board of trustees of the Portsmouth Supplem~ntaI Retirement <br />System, as provided for in sections 31-13 to 31-23. <br /> <br /> Creditable compensation. The term "creditable compen- <br />sation" shall be taken to mean the full compensation payable to <br />an e~i~loyee working the full working time for his position; in <br />cases where compensation inc!~desmaintenance and other perquisites, <br /> <br /> <br />
