AN ORDINANCE TO b3IEND THE CODE OF T~ CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIR- <br />GINIA, 1973, BY REPEALING THE EXISTING SECTION 2-8 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR CITY F~IPLOYEES AND <br />REPLACING SAID SECTION WITH A NEW SECTION 2-8 PERTAINING TO <br />RESIDENCE REQUIREI~NTS; AND AMENDING SECTION 2-12 THEREOF PER- <br />TAINING TO ANNUAL LEAVE FOR CITY EMPLOYEES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Por~s- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, 1973, be amended by repealing Section 2-8 thereof <br />and replacing such section with a new section numbered 2-8, <br />such new section to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-8. Residence requirements for city employees; <br /> limitations thereon. <br /> <br /> (a) All city officers or employees who are ap- <br />pointed by the city council shall be bona fide residents of <br />the city or become such within six months after the effective <br />date of their appointment. Upon failure to comply with this <br />subsection, their employment shall i~ediatety cease. <br /> <br /> (b) For all city employees other than those <br />covered by subsection (a) hereof, there shall be no residence <br />requirement, except that the city manager may, in his discre- <br />tion, require that any department head subject to his appointive <br />power remain a resident of the city or become such within slx <br />months after the effective date of his appointn~ent. <br /> <br /> 2. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1974, be amended by amending Section 2-12 thereof, such amended <br />section to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-12. Annual leave. <br /> <br /> (a) There shall be granted to each officer and <br />employee of the city annual leave at the rate of one day of <br />annual leave for each continuous calendar month of employment. <br /> <br /> (b) In addition to the annual leave benefits pro- <br />vided in subsection (a) above, each officer and employee who <br />shall have completed the specified number of ca!endar years of <br />continuous employment shall be entitled to additional annual <br />leave in accordance with the following schedule: <br /> <br /> <br />
