(1) Agricultural uses, such as general <br />farming pasture, grazing~ outdoor plant <br />nurseries, horticulutre, viticulture, truck <br />farming, forestry~ sod farming and wild crop <br />harvesting. <br /> <br />(2) Recreational facilities, both private <br />and public, such as golf courses, tennis <br />courts, hunting and fishing areas~ boat <br />ramps, swi~ing areas, and similar facilities. <br /> <br />(3) !ndustiral-com~ercial uses such as <br />loadin~ areas~ parking areas~ airport landing <br />strips, water control structures, and navi- <br />gation facilities. <br /> <br />(4) Residential structures, the lowest floor <br />of which (including any basement floor) are <br />elevated 8.5 feet above mean sea leveL. ~on- <br />residential structures, the lowest floors of <br />which (including any basement floor) are ele- <br />vated 8.5 feet above mean sea level and/or <br />are protected by such additional flood proof- <br />ing measu3~es as the Building Official shall <br />deem necessary to protect the particular struc- <br />ture. Flood proofing measures which include <br />those several procedures hereinafter described, <br />and such additional measures as the advancing <br />state of the art may sanction. <br /> <br /> (b) All uses shall be allowed in Flood Hazard District <br />2, provided such uses are not prohibited by other applicable ordi- <br />nances of the City of Portsmouth~ and provided furthers t~at no <br />such use shall adversely affect the capacity of channels or flood- <br />ways of any tributary to the main stream, drainage ditch, or any <br />other d~ainage ditch or facility. <br /> <br />Section 40.1-5. Flood proofing; definition of. <br /> <br /> Flood proofing, as used herein shall mean one or more <br />structural provisions, changes, or adjustments to property to <br />reduce or eliminate flood damage to structures~ contents thereof, <br />and water and sanitary facilities. Such measures may include but <br />are not limited to the anchorage of structure to foundations, in- <br />stallation of watertight doors and bulkheads, reinforcement of <br />walls to resist wate~ pressure, the use of paints~ me~ranes or <br />mortars to reduce seepage of water through wal!s~ addition of mass <br />or weight to structures to resist flotation, installation of p~mps <br />to lower water levels in structures, construction of water supply <br />and water treatment systems to prevent the entrance of flood water~ <br /> <br /> <br />
