such purposes and the development and maintenance of appropriate <br />settings and environment therefor. <br /> <br />Section 40-93. District created; boundaries of district. <br /> <br /> In order to execute the purposes and objectives <br />declared in Section 40-92, there is hereby created in the city <br />a district to be known as the.'~Historic District." The <br />boundaries of such district are shown on a map entitled "Historic <br />District," which shall be filed and maintained in the same <br />manner required by Section 40-18 of this chapter for other <br />zoning maps. <br /> <br />Section 40-94. Compliance with article. <br /> <br /> In order to further execute the purposes and objectives <br />declared in Section 40-92 and pursuant to the power granted to <br />and conferred upon the City, the location, construction, re- <br />construction, alterations, repair, demolition of buildings <br />and other structures, improvements or any other external repair <br />or maintenance activity including painting in the Historic <br />District shall be subject to and shall be governed and controlled <br />by the regulations contained herein; and no building, structure <br />or improvement shall be externally repaired, maintained, painted, <br />located, constructed, reconstructed, altered, or demolished in <br />the ~istoric District unless the external repair, maintenance, <br />painting, location, construction, reconstruction, alteration, <br />or demolition thereof complies with all the regulations established <br />by this article. <br /> <br />Section 40-95. Commission of architectural review. <br /> <br /> (a) In order to further execute the purposes and <br />objectives declared in Section 40-92 and pursuant to the power <br />granted to and conferred upon the city, there is hereby created <br />and established a commission of architectural review which shall <br />be known as the Commission of Architectural Review, and here- <br />after in this article referred to as "commission." <br /> <br /> (b) The commission shall consist of five (5) members <br />who are ¢~tizens of the City. They shall be appointed by the <br />City Council for terms of office of five (5) years from the <br />date of appointment; provided that the terms of office of the <br />five (5) members first appointed shall be for one, two (2), <br />three (3), four (4) and five (5) years respectively, and there- <br />after each member shall be appointed for a term of five (5) <br />years. One of the members of the commission shall be appointed <br />from at least t]nree (3) nominees made by the Portsmouth Bar <br />Association, one shall be appointed from at least three (3) <br />nominees made by Tidewater Section of the Virginia Chapter of <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
