AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA~ <br />1973, BY A~4ENDING SECTION 33-2 PERTAINING TO DEFINITIONS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council~of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia~ <br />1973, be ~ended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 33-2. Definitions. <br /> <br /> The following words and phrases when used in this-Chapter <br />shall, for the purposes of this Chapter, have the meanings re- <br />spectively ascribed to them in this section except in those instances <br />where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: <br /> <br /> Alley. A minor way designed to give vehicular access to <br />the side or rear of properties whose principal frontage is on an- <br />other street. <br /> <br /> Arterial street° A street designed to provide for either <br />primary or secondary through traffic movement. Such streets shall <br />be primarily for connection between primary highways, major second- <br />ary roads~ other arterials or circumferential highways. <br /> <br /> Condominium. Real property, and any incidents thereto <br />or interests therein~ lawfully submitted to Chapter 4.2 of Title 55 <br />of the Code of Virginia, Condominium Act, by the recordation of <br />condominium instruments pursuant to the provisions of said chapter. <br />No project shall be deemed a condominium unless the undivided in- <br />terests in the common elements are vested in the unit owners. <br /> <br /> Cul-de-sac. A minor street, one end of which is permanently <br />closed to dedication to public use and consists of a circular or a <br />"T" shaped turnaround° Temporary cul-de-sacs may be required where <br />deemed necessary by the director. <br /> <br />Director° Director of Planning of the City. <br /> <br /> External collector street. A street, including the principal <br />entrance streets of a residential, development, designed Go carry traf- <br />fic from residential or other developments to the major syst~ of <br />arterial streets. <br /> <br /> Internal collector street. A street primarily designed to <br />provide circulation and <br /> t~orough~are within a subdivision. An in- <br />ternal collector street may also be required to serve as access to <br />abutting properties or lots and to cornnect with streets in adjoining <br />subdivisions. <br /> <br /> <br />
