Section 10. Overtime and additional compensation <br /> Firefighter and Policeman. <br /> <br /> (a) Except in emergency cases overtime work for fire- <br />fighters and .policemen must be approved in advance by the Chief <br />of the respective department before compensation will be granted. <br /> <br /> (b) Payment for overtime for firefighters and policemen <br />shall be computed in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards <br />Act as amended in 1974o <br /> <br /> (c) Any firefighter or policeman below the rank of <br />Deputy Chief placed on special assignment duty shall be paid <br />at the rate of $4.00 per hour for the time spent on such duty. <br />Such additional compensation must be entered by the Chief of <br />the department on the next succeeding payroll submitted to the <br />Finance Director. All special assignments must be authorized <br />by the Chief of the department, or during his absence or dis- <br />ability, his duly authorized delegate. Overtime work shall not <br />be considered special assignment duty. <br /> <br /> (d) Any firefighter or policeman who appears as a <br />witness when not oh a regular assigned period of duty, in criminal <br />cases in courts of ~he City of Portsmouth shall be paid a wit- <br />ness fee of Ten ($10.00) Dollars for Juvenile and Domestic Re- <br />lations Court and the General District Court, and Fifteen ($15.OO) <br />Dollars for the Circuit Court for each such appearance; provided <br />however, that only those ~irefighters and policemen who are nec- <br />essary to the prosecution of the case may be paid such witness <br />fee in connection with the trial of any particular case; and <br />further provided however, that no firefighter and policeman shall <br />be paid more than one such witness fee per day regardless of how <br />many cases or courts he may be required to appear or testify in. <br />Such appearances shall be certified by the Clerk of the Court to <br />the Fire Chief or the Police Chief, respectively~ who shall re- <br />port same to the City Payroll Clerk on such forms and at such <br />times as the Finance Director may prescribe. <br /> <br /> (e) Any firefighter or policeman who is required to <br />wear civilian clothes in the regular performance of his official <br />duties shall be paid an additional thirty-five dollars per month <br />as a clothing allowance. <br /> <br />Section 1t. Advance degrees. <br /> <br /> (a) Any employee who at the direction of his department <br />head or with the prior written approval of the deoartment head <br />and City Manager or his designee, obtains au associate, baccalaureate~ <br />or advanced degree in his field or profession beyond that required <br /> <br /> <br />
