Section 5. Promotions. <br /> <br /> Upon promotion to a higher pay grade, the employee <br />will be placed in the lowest step which will afford him a two <br />step increase in pay. An employee may not be placed in a higher <br />step than the above without the authorization of the City <br />Manager or his designee. In no case will he be paid more than <br />the maximum compensation provided for that grade. <br /> <br />Section 6. Demotions. <br /> <br /> Any employee who is demOted to a lower grade 'shall <br />receive compensation according to the grade and step in which <br />he is placed by the Department Head and the Director of Per- <br />sonnel. <br /> <br />Section 7. Transfers. <br /> <br /> "Transfer" shall mean lateral reassignment of an <br />employee from one position classification to another position <br />classification, which is comparable in terms of duties, re- <br />sponsibilities, and salary range~ Any ~mployee transferred <br />to another classof employment shall receive compensation at <br />the same step rate he received prior to his transfer. <br /> <br />Section 8. Part-time employees. <br /> <br /> Any person employed on a part-time basis shall receive <br />compensation as.prescribed by the Department Head and Director <br />of Personnel. <br /> <br />Section. 9. Overtime - generally. <br /> <br /> (a) Ail non-exempt employees, shall be compensated at <br />a ra=e of one and one-half times the straight hourly rate for <br />all hours worked in excess of forty hours in a work-week. "Non- <br />exempt employees" shall be those employees subject to 'the over- <br />time provisions of The Fair Labor Standards Ac~ as amended. <br />Except in emergency cases overtime work must be approved in <br />advance by the Department Head before cQmpensation will be <br />granted. <br /> <br /> (b) Any non-exempt employee who is required to work on <br />a holiday shall be paid for the straight hours worked, plus the <br />normal pay for one day of work. <br /> <br /> (c) In cases of emergency~ the City Manager may~ at <br />his discretion~ authorize payment for overtime uo ~mptoyees in <br />exempt ~ ' <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
