Section 4. New employees. <br /> <br /> Ail new employees are considered probationary for <br />one year and shall receive compensation according to the <br />classification in which they are placed. No employee shall <br />be hired at a rate above the "A" step of the classification <br />without written approval of the City Manager or his designee. <br />All new employees will progress in their classification <br />according to Section 3 of this plan. <br /> <br />Section 5. Promotions. <br /> <br /> Upon promotion to a higher pay grade, the employee <br />will be placed in the lowest step which will afford him an <br />increase in pay that is no more than a three step advance- <br />ment unless authorized by the City Manager. In no case will <br />an employee's base salary be less than the minimum nor more <br />than the maximm~ for the grade to which he is promoted. <br /> <br />-Section 6. Demotions. <br /> <br /> Any employee %,zho is demoted to a lower grade shall <br />receive compensation according to the grade and step in <br />which he is placed by the Department Head and the Director <br />of Personnel. <br /> <br />Section 7. Transfers. <br /> <br /> "Transfer" shall mean lateral reassignment of an <br />employee from one position classification to another position <br />classification, which is comparable mn terms of duties, <br />responsibilities, and salary range. Any employee trans- <br />ferred to another class of employment shall receive compen- <br />sation at the same step rate he received prior, to his transfer. <br /> <br />Section 8. Part-time employees. <br /> <br /> Any person employed on a part-time basis shall receive <br />compensation as prescribed by the Department Head and Director <br />of Personnel. <br /> <br />Section 9. Overtime - General. <br /> <br /> (a) All non-exempt employees, shall be corapensated <br />at a rate of one and one-half times the straight hourly rate <br />for all hours worked in excess of forty hours in a work-week. <br />"Non-exempt employees" shall be those employees subject to <br />the overtime provisions of The Fair Labor Standards Act as <br />amended. Except in emergency cases overtime ~-~ork must be <br />approved in advance by the Department Head before compensation <br />will be granted. <br /> <br /> <br />
