Upon application, a special exception to the <br />requirements specified in paragraph 4 of subsection (a) may <br />be granted pursuant to the procedure outlined in paragraph <br />1.2 of subsection (a). <br /> <br /> (b) No sign intended to be read from any public <br />street or sidewalk adjacent to such street shall be permitted <br />except as provided.below: <br /> <br /> 1. Off-site signs, billboards and poster panels <br />shall be prohibited. <br /> <br /> 2. Mounting of signs: Signs shall be mounted <br />only on buildings, or upon extensions from buildings. <br /> <br /> 3.1. Number and Area Limitations: Signs erected <br />with their highest portion below a height of 20 feet above <br />curb level shall be limited in number and area as follows: <br />For any permitted use~ maximum allo~nent shall be four signs <br />and not to exceed a combined area totaling 80 square feet of <br />surface area for each 20 feet of lot line adjacent to a public <br />streetr with any one sign not exceeding 20 square feet of sign <br />area. Such sign area may be used in a lesser number of signs <br />than the maximum permitted. Signs permitted shall be erected <br />only on the exposure of the propsrty from which the allotment <br />is computed. <br /> <br /> Where such signs are displayed o~ extensions such <br />as awnings marquees or canopies, not more than three such <br />signs shall be displayed on any one street frontage, and the <br />total area of such sign shall not exceed 12 sq. feet~ Such <br />extensions from buildings shall not protrude twenty-four <br />(24") inches beyond the flush facade of the building. <br /> <br /> 3.2. Signs erected with their lowest portions <br />at or above a height of 20 feet above curb level shall be <br />only general identification signs (including "logos"), stating <br />only the name of the building and/or the name and nature of <br />the establishments therein. Only one such sign shall be <br />permitted for each exposed face of the building, except that <br />where the length of such fact exceeds 100 feet, a second s~gn <br />shall be permitted. Minimum area allotment for any such sign <br />shall be 1OO sq. ft. or 2 percent of the surface area of the <br />building on the exposure involved, up to a maximum of 300 sq. <br />feet. <br /> <br />4.
