SECTION 4. Allegiances <br /> <br />The rate Df p~y set forth in :this schedule shaI1 be~deemed <br />to include the full compensation of ~he employee. However, <br />the value of any allowances made to the employee by the City <br />shall also be considered a partJ!of total compensation. <br /> <br /> SECTION 5~ New Employees <br /> <br />All new employees are probationary for one year and shall <br />receive compensation according to the classification in which <br />~they are placed. No employee hired after June 30, 1979 may <br />be placed in a transitional step in this Pay Plan. <br /> <br /> No employee may'remain in a probationary status for more than <br /> one year. Upon completion of one year of service, and the re- <br /> quired Performance Evaluations, the employee will be removed <br /> from probationary status or terminated. <br /> <br /> No employee shall be hired at a rate above the "A" step of the <br /> classification without the written approval of the City Manager <br /> or his designee. <br /> <br />SECTION 6. Promotions <br /> <br />When an employee is promoted to a classification one grade higher <br />than the present classification, the employee will receive a one <br />step increase (two steps on the old Pay Schedule). If the pro- <br />motion is two or more grades above his former classification, the <br />employee will receive a two step Increase, (four-steps under the <br />old Pay Schedule). The City Manager may, at his discretion, <br />authorize variations in the application of this Section. However, <br />in no case will an employee's base salary be less than the minimum <br />nor more than the maximum for the grade to which promoted. <br /> <br />SECTION 7. Demotions <br /> <br />Employees who are demoted to a lower grade or reduced in steps <br />shall receive compensation according to the grade and step in <br />which they are placed by the Department Head and the Director <br />of Personnel and authorized by the office of the City Manager. <br />In no case will aP employee retain the same compensation that <br />was received prior to the demotion, or be compensated at a rate <br />less than the minimum for the grade ro which demoted. <br /> <br />SECTION 8. Transfers <br /> <br />"Transfer" shall mean lateral re-assignment of an employee from <br />one position classification ~o another position classification, <br />.of the same grade. Such ~ransfer may occur within ~r between <br />departments. Any employee ~ransferred vo another class of em- <br />ployment shall receive compensation at the same grade and step <br />received prior to the transfer. The transfer activity may not <br />be used to increase or decrease the salary of the transferred <br /> employee. No employee may be transferred without the prior <br />approval of the Department Head(s) involved and the Director of <br /> Personnel. <br /> <br /> <br />
