(b) EXAMINATIONS: The Board of Examiners for each respect- <br />ire division, shall, before issuing any certificate of competency <br />to any applicant, satisfy itself that the applicant meets the <br />standards established by the Director of the State Department <br />of Housing and CommUnity Development.- All persons desiring <br />examination for a certificate of competency shall make appli- <br />cation in the manner prescribed by the appropriate Board. Each <br />application must be accompanied by an examination fee. Applicants <br />who qualify and pass the examination'shall be issued 'a certificate <br />of competency. All examinations shall be in writing and may <br />be augmented by oral examination from members of the Board. Upon <br />satisfactory compliance with the provisions of this Code and <br />the satisfactory completion of the appropriate examination, the <br />Board shall ~ssue the following types of certificates of competency: <br /> <br /> (1) Level one worker, formerly'known as journeyman: <br /> The applicant must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, ability, <br />..and proficiency to meet the level one criteria set out and the <br /> standards established by the Board and by the Director of the <br /> StateDepartment of Housing and Community Development. Applicants <br /> desiring to obtain certification at this level shall furnish <br /> evidence that one or more of the following experience and~educati0~- <br /> standards have been attained: (a) four yearsof practical exper- <br /> ience in the specific area of expertise or directly related area <br /> of experience for which certification is desired; - (b) successful <br /> completion of Registered Apprenticeship System established in <br /> accordance with the Virginia Voluntary Apprenticeship Act in the <br /> area of expertise for Which certification is desired; (C) an <br /> associate degree in the area of expertise for which certification <br /> is desired and two [2) years of p~actical experience in the <br /> specific 'area of expertise for wh!ch certification is desired; <br /> (d) Bachel~r'sDegree~in~tho studyof~engiheering in.a curriculum <br /> related to the area of expertise for which certification is <br /> desired and one (1) year of practical experience in.the'~spocific <br /> area of expertise for which the Certifica~ion'is desired. <br /> <br /> (~)~ Level Two'worker, formerly known as master: <br /> ~Th~ applican~'must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, ability <br /> ~.~nd'profici~ncy to meet the level two crit~ria~set out in the <br /> standards established by. this Board and by the Director of <br /> the State Department of Housing andC0mmunity Development. <br /> Applicants desiring to obtain certification at level two shall <br /> furnish ~vidence that item (a), below and one'or more of ex- <br /> perience requirements lb) through (f) have been~met: (a) <br /> one year Of experience in supervision of the installation or <br /> repair of th~ specific types of"equipment involved and related <br /> apparatus Utilized within the specific area of expertise for <br /> which certification is desired; (b) four years of practical <br /> experience in the specific area of expertise or directly re- <br /> lated area of-expertise for which ~ert~fication is desired; <br /> (c) successful completion of a Registered Apprenticeship ~ / <br /> System established in accordance with the Virginia Voluntary <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br /> <br />
