AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITYOF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 6-7, 6-8, <br />6-13, 6-15, 6-17, AND 6-18 OF THE BUILDING CODE, TO CONFOR~ <br />TO CHANGES IN THE UNIFORM STATEWIDE BUILDING CODE. <br /> <br /> -BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1.. That Section. 6-7 of the Code of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia, 1973, as amended, be amended and reordained <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 6-7. Organization. <br /> <br /> (a) BUILDING OFFICIAL: The department of building in- <br /> spections of the Cty of Portsmouth is hereby created, and <br /> the executive official in charge thereof shall be known as <br />. th~ building official, who shall be appointed by the city . <br /> manager of the City of Portsmouth. Said building official <br /> shall not be removed from office except for cause, and <br /> after full opportunity has been granted him to be heard on <br /> specif~ic and relevant charges by and before the city manager. <br /> Thebuilding official shall supervise the following'divisions, <br /> which are a part of the department of building inspection. <br /> <br /> (b) DIVISION OF PLUMBING INSPECTION: The division of <br /> plumbing inspection shall be supervised by the senior plumbing <br /> inspector, who shal! have such assistants as may, from time <br /> to time, be authorized <br /> .. ' - by the city manager and appointed by <br /> the building offidial. The term "plumbing official" wherever <br /> ~ used in this Code shall be synonymous with the term "plumbing <br /> inspector". <br /> <br /> (1) QUALIFICATIONS: The Senior plurabing inspector <br /> and assistant' plumbing inspectors shalI have at !eas~ five (5) <br /> years experience,.each, as either an engineer or a master plu~er <br /> ' .(which term is synonymous with the term "Plumbing Worker Level II"' <br /> as found in Section 15.1-11~4 and Section 36-90 of the Code of <br /> ' Virginia, 1950, as amended, and is utilized by the State Department <br /> of Housing and Community Development or as a journeyman plumber, <br /> whore synonym is Plumbing Worker Level I. in accord with the <br /> language of~the above-referenced sections of the State Code, and <br /> who must have received a certificate of proficiency from either <br /> the City's Board for Examination of-Plumbers or from the State. <br /> The terms utilized, which have synonyms as indicated above, <br /> shallbe interchangeable with their respective synonyms in all <br /> parts ef the Code. <br /> <br /> (c) DIVISION OF ELECTRICAL INSPECTION: The ~ivision of <br /> electrical inspection shall be supervised by the senior electrical <br /> inspector, who sh~ll have such assistants as may., from time to <br /> time, be authorized by the city manager and appointed by the <br /> building official. The term "electrical official" wherever used <br /> in'this Code shall be synonymous with the term "electrical <br /> inspector". <br /> <br /> <br />
