AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 11-19 OF THE CODE OF TEE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTh, VIRGINIA, l$73,.PERTAINING TO TEE DISPOSITION <br />OF CERTAIN PAID AI~D CANCELLED BONDS AND INTEREST COUPONS. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 11-19 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 11-19. Disposition of certain paid and cancelled <br /> bonds and interest coupons. <br /> <br /> All bonds and interest coupons which have been paid and <br />cancelled for more than ten Gl0) years, and all interest <br />coupons which are surrendered on bonds registered both as <br />to principal and interest, shall be destroyed and burned <br />by the Director of Finance in the presence of two (2) <br />witnesses. A certificate, signed by the Direc~cor o~Fi~nance <br />and the witnesses, showing the numbers and amounts of the <br />bonds and coupons and the date of issue shall be filed with <br />the City Clerk. <br /> <br /> The City Council, by resolution, may approve the re- <br />tention of certain paid and cancelled bonds which have <br />historical significance for display, presentation and <br />distribution purposes. Such resolution shall set forth the <br />type, issue date and serial number of the bonds to be re- <br />tained as well as the purpose for such retention. The <br />Director of Finance shall certify prior to the release from <br />his custody of any such bonds that all such bonds have ~been <br />cancelled by perforation. <br /> <br /> 2.
