83-134

-.

Several opera~ors requested that the City change
its practice of ticketing taxicab operators for
improper equipment (recommended ticketing owners).

A request was made for Police Department to crack
down on illegal taxi's for hire operating within
the City.

A reques~
cab owner
City with

was made that the City require each taxi-
to have insurance carriers provide the
30-day notice of cancellation.

A statement was made that taxicab operators needed
vo strengthen their own relationship and stop
"reporting" on each other ~o the City's taxicab
inspector.

A question was raised as to whether or not the City
would be involved with Norview Lemo Service's request
currently before the SCC for a franchise in Portsmouth.

A request was made that the City consider granting
~emporary permits for new taxicabs (30 days). Rationale
being once a taxicab is taken out of commission some-
times it takes two to four weeks to arrange for painting,
lettering and the like and it virtually_ puts a cab ou~
of business unless a ~emporary permit could be granted.

It was the general consensus of those presen~ that the proposed
changes to the code were beneficial both vo the general public and
the taxicab indusvry. It was indicated that because many of the
concerns raised by the taxicab owners and operavors were primarily
of an administrative or legal nature that staff would review and
respond directly to the taxicab owners and opera~ors on each issue
at a later date.

The meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.
