AN ORDINANCE TO A~END SECTION 8-3 OF THE CODE OF TR~ CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, PERTAINING TO FEES AND COMPEN- <br />SATION FOR THE HIGH CONSTABLE. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 8-3 of the Code of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia, 1973r be amended and reordained to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section 8-3. Same - Fees and Compensation. <br /> <br /> (a) The High Constable shall receive such fees for <br />service in relation to the General District Court of the City <br />as are now or may hereafter he prescribed by la~ for sheriffs <br />in relation to the Circuit Court of the City. <br /> <br /> (b) The fees collected by the High Constable shall be <br />paid into the treasury of the City regularly, but not less than <br />once a month. All fees and commissions of every kind and <br />character, whether payable by the Commonwealth, the United <br />States, or by private persons, firms or corporations, now or <br />hereafter receivable by law or ordinance by the High Constable, <br />shall continue to be paid to and collected by him and shall <br />be paid into the treasury of the City, except that the City <br />shall not be required to pay to him any fees or co~missions <br />for service performed for such City. <br /> <br /> (c) The High Constable shall be paid a salary out of <br />the treasury of the City as provided by law, which salary shall <br />be in full compensation for his services and shall be in <br />lieu of the retention by him of any and all official fees and <br />co~mm, issions of whatever kind or character, and from whatever <br />source derived; the expenses of his office, including the <br />compensation of deputies and employees, shall be likewise pai~ <br />out of the treasury of the City. <br /> <br />2. This ordinance shall take effect on July 1, 1983. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held June 28, 1983. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
