WHEREAS, the Virginia Army National Guard now occupies the Armory <br /> <br />on Elm Avenue, between South Street and Barbour Drive, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Army National Guard proposes to extend its <br /> <br />use of property owned by the City at this location by providing an Organ- <br /> <br />izational Maintenance Shop, crushed stone hardstand for vehicle parking, <br /> <br />a flammable storage building of approximately 100 square feet, and a <br /> <br />security fence surrounding the entire area devoted to that purpose, and <br /> <br />has requested the consent of the City to the installation of the aforesaid <br /> <br />improvements and occupancy of the additional area required therefor. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Ports- <br /> <br />mouth, Virginia, that consent of the City is extended to the Virginia <br /> <br />Army National Guard to install the hereinabove described facilities upon <br /> <br />the area of land described as follows: <br /> <br /> Beginning at a point on the western property line of Elm <br /> Avenue 113 feet north of the northwest corner of South <br /> Street and Elm Avenue; thence in a southwesterly direction <br /> parallel with South Street 145 feet to a point; thence west <br /> 82 feet to a point; thence north 332 feet to a point; thence <br /> east 218 feet to Elm Avenue; thence along the western pro- <br /> perty line of Elm Avenue 282 feet to the point of beginning. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that use of the aforesaid area of land shall <br /> <br /> cease upon cessation of use of the Armory by the Virginia Army National <br /> <br /> Guard, and any improvements placed thereon and not removed upon cessation <br /> <br /> of use shall become the property of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth at a meeting held <br /> <br />on October 27, 1959. <br /> <br /> <br />
