WHEREAS, Section 46-a of the Charter of the City of Portsmouth <br /> <br />provides that payment of Taxes due the City may be enforced by warrant, <br /> <br />motion, bill in chancery or attachment upon request of the City Council <br /> <br />or the City Collector; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the office of City Collector has been abolished and it <br /> <br />is the desire of this Council to provide for the orderly and expeditious <br /> <br />collection of delinquent real estate taxes. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Ports- <br /> <br />mouth, Virginia, that the City Attorney be and hereby is authorized and <br /> <br />requested to institute such legal proceedings as are available under the <br /> <br />Charter or general law to enforce collection of taxes on real estate <br /> <br />which are more than three (3) years delinquent. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that legal proceedings heretofore instituted <br /> <br />by the City Attorney to enforce collection of such taxes are hereby rati- <br /> <br />fied and affirmed. <br /> <br /> Adopted at a meeting of City Council on October 13, 1959. <br /> <br /> <br />
