~ RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING A RESOLUTION ADOPTED <br /> M_A~RCH 12, 1968 BY COb~CIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br />RELATING TO THE WATER SERVICE CONTRACT DATED MARCH 30, <br />1920~ BETWEEN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND THE CITY OF SUFFOLK <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the Council of the City of Portsmouth at s <br /> <br />meeting held on March 12, 1968, adopted a resolution (i) revok~ <br />lng and annulling the arbitration provisions of the contract <br />dated March 30, 1920, between the City of Portsmouth and the <br />City of Suffolk, (ii) refusing to submit to arbitration, or to <br />appoint an arbitrator regarding, the water rates chargeable under <br />said contract, (iii) terminating and cancelling said contract in <br />'its entirety, effective at 12 o'clock noon on March 30, 1973, <br />and (iv) expressing the willingness of the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth to negotiate and enter into a new contract with <br />the City of Suffolk whereby the City of Portsmouth will furnish <br />water to the City of Suffolk and its inhabitants during a reasonable <br />period of time, not exceeding thirty years, on such terms as <br />the Councils of said Cities shall deem mutually, fair and reason- <br />able; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS it has come to the attention of the Council of <br /> <br /> the City of Portsmouth that a resolution was adopted by the <br /> Council of the City of Suffolk on September 19, 1968, demanding, <br /> pursuant to the amendment to Section 8-503 of the Code of <br /> Virginia which became effective on June 28, 1968, that <br /> <br /> <br />
