A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE FORMATION OF AN AREAWiDE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH PLANhriNG AGENCY WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, recognizes its responsibility vo prmmote and protect the health and well-being of its citizens; and WHEREAS, Public Law 89-749 makes provision for establish- ment of areawide comprehensive health planning agencies by the localities of a geographic region; and $~qEREAS, the governmental subdivisions known as Accomack County, City of Chesapeake, City of Franklin, Isle'of Wight County, Nansemond County, City of Norfolk, Northampton County, City of Portsmouth, Southampton County, City of Suffolk, and Cit~ of Virginia Beach constitute a logical geographic region within which to undertake the devel6pment of an areawide com- prehensive health planning agency; and WHEREAS, to t~hat end the aformmentioned subdivisions have -each designated one representative to a con~mittee to further the objective of £orminganareawide con~prehensive health planning agency; and WHEREAS, that committee bas agreed to proceed with steps to 'organize an areawide comprehensive health planning agency. NOW, TF]EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it hereby approves and concurs in the decision of the committee of eleven representatives to organize an agency for the express purpose of seeking designation as an area- wide comprehensive health planning agency. BE IT ~URTHER RESOLVED, that in recognition of the authorization by the City of Portsmouth ~o proceed, that an official representative from Portsmouth shall be named to act on behalf of the City Council subject to final approval by that body.
