(c) The city clerk shall notify all successful <br />councilmanic candidates of what is necessary for them to do <br />irmmediately after their election has been certified by the proper <br />officials. <br /> <br />3.04. Vacancies in Office of Councilmen. <br /> <br /> Vacancies in the office of councilmen, from whatever <br />cause arising~ shall be filled for the unexpired portion of <br />the term by majority vote of the remaining members of the coun- <br />cil, or, if the council shall fail to fill a vacancy in its <br />membership within sixty days of the occurence of the vacancy, <br />by appointment by a majority of the judges of the courts of <br />record of the City. If any person elected to the council at <br />a r~gular municipal election shall fail to take [he oath of <br />office prior to the first day of July following such election; <br />he sh~atl be deemed to have declined the o~fice, and his seat <br />shall be deemed vacant. If any person appointed to tbs coun- <br />cil to fill mn unexpired term shall fail to take the oath of <br />office within thirty days of such appointment, he shall be <br />deemed to have declined the office, and his seat shall be <br />deemed vacant. <br /> <br /> § 3.05. Induction of New Members. <br /> <br /> Each member of the council, before entering upon the <br /> dutieg of his office, shall take the oath of office. The oath <br />of Office may be administered by the city clerk, the judge or <br />· Clerk of any Court, or by any other officer authorized by law. <br /> <br />~ 3.06. Election of Mayor an_d Vice-Mayor. <br /> <br /> On the first day of July, 1970, and on the first day <br />of July every second year thereafter, or if such day shall fall <br />on Sunday, then on the following Monday, the council shall pro- <br />ceed to choose by majority vote of all the members thereof one <br />of their number to be mayor and one to be vice-mayor for the <br />ensuing two years. Until this business has been completed, the <br />council shall not adjourn for a period longer than forty-eight <br />hours. The city attorney shall preside over such meeting, and <br />any adjournment thereof, until a mayor and a vice-mayor shall <br />have been elected. <br /> <br />3.07. Election of Mayor Pro Tempore. <br /> <br /> When from any cause both the mayor and the vice-mayor <br />are absent from a meeting or are unable to preside, a mayor pro <br />tempore shall be elected by the council to preside during the <br />absence or disability of the mayor and vice-mayor. The city <br />attorney shall preside over any such meeting until a mayor pro <br />tempore shall have been elected, which shall be the first order <br />of business of any such meeting. <br /> <br />-i0- <br /> <br /> <br />
