the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> (2) Such petition shall be signed by at least <br />seventy-five qualified electors of the city. <br /> <br /> (3) Each elector signing a petition may subscribe <br />to one nomination for each 'of the places to be f~lled at the <br />ensuing election, and no more. <br /> <br /> (4) Such petitisn shall'not be signed by any <br />elector more than ninety days prior to the day of such election, <br />and such petition s~all be file~ with the Clerk of the Hustings <br />Court of said City not less thmn sixty days previous to the <br />day'of such electionl <br /> <br /> (b) Any person whose name has b~en submitted for can- <br />didacy by any such petition, shall file his acceptance of such <br />candidacy with the Clerk of the Hustings Court of said city at <br />least sixty days previous to the date of such election, otherwise <br />his name shall not appear o~ the ballot. The filing of such <br />acceptance shall be deemed equivalent to the filing of notice <br />of Candidacy under the general election laws of the State, and no <br />other notice of candidacy need be given by the perso~ filing the <br />same. <br /> <br />Election of Councilmen. <br /> <br /> (a) On the second Tuesday in May in nineteen hundred <br />seventy and on the second Tuesday in May of every fourth year <br />thereafter, there shall be a~general election at which time the <br />qualified voters of the CitN shall elect three councilmen for <br />terms of four years. On the second Tuesday in May ninetee~ <br />hundred seventy-two and on the second Tuesday in May of every <br />fourth year thereafter, there~shall be a general election at <br />whic~ time the qualified voters of the City shall elect four <br />councilmen for terms of four years. All terms shall be~in on <br />the first day of July next following the date of their election. <br /> <br /> (b) The candidates at any municipal election' for the <br />election of councilmen equal in number to the places to be filled <br />who shall receive a majority of the votes at such electdon sh~ll <br />be declared elected. ~f the numb~bf~candidates at any suc~ <br />municipal election who receive a majority of the votes cas~ is <br />legs than the number of places to be filled~than those who s~all <br />have received a majority of t~s votes at such election shall be <br />declared elected, and a second municipal election shall be held <br />on the second Tuesday in June, immediately following thereafter. <br />The number of candidates at the second municipal election shall <br />be two more than the number of places remaining to be filled on <br />the council.
