66 <br /> <br />RESOL~±'±ON STAT~G OPPOSITION TO THE LNSTALLATION <br />OF A TRAFFIC ~DI~ ON HIGH STRa~±' FROM DOUGL&S <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, w~thin the limits of Project 0058-124-102 C501, PE-101, <br />~-201, RW-202 (London-Glasgow Highway) there is to be ~nstalied a t~affic <br />median on PLigh Street between its intersection ~rith Douglas Avenue and <br />Fz~derick Boulevard; and ~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the merchants %eno abut the site of the proposed ~dian <br />ser~e and depend upon drive-in customer~; and <br /> <br /> W~, the installation of such a median will cause severe <br />financial hardship to such merchants throu~a the loss of customers who will <br />be prevented from turning directly into such abutting businesses by said. <br />median; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, is in <br />agree~en~ with the aforementioned ~rchants in feeling that the supposed ad- <br />vantages of a median inst~tled in this particular area are mir~,~l and are <br />far o~tweighed by the inconvenience it ~ll present to the citizens of Ports- <br />mouth and the finsncial loss it will impose upon said merchsnts. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEHEFORE~ BE IT RESOL~ by tZne Cot~ncil of the City of <br /> <br />· Portsmouth that in belnalf of the aforamentior~d r.,~rchants, it r~ost strongly <br /> opposes the installation of a =~dian on High Street between its inter~ection <br /> with Douglas Avenue and Frederick Boulevard; and <br /> <br /> BE IT Fb~T~ri~R ~RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby d~rected to <br />fo~rd a copy of this resolution to the State ~gj. nw~y Department and the <br />Bureau of Public Roads. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Co~ucil of the City o. ,orbsmo .... , ,~a~a, at a <br />meeting held August 25, 1970. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />~Cit~ Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
