A RESOLUTION TO ENCOURA~ ~.'NCORPORATING RADIOACTIVE FALLOUT PROTECTION <br />AGAINST NUCLEAR RADIATION LN N~W STRUCTURES. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the objective of the City Council o£ Portsmouth, <br />V~rginia, is that radioactive fallout protection be provided for all <br />its citizens whether at home, work, school, or elsewhere in the City; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHERe%S, the cOmmunity Shelter Plan pertaining to the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia~ discloses the need for additional protection <br />in certain areas of the City against the damaging effects of radios <br />active fallout in the event of nuclear attack; and <br /> <br /> ~S, a need for such protection may continue to exist in <br />the future; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the occupants and users <br />of newly constructed buildings to be provided with adequate shel~er pro- <br />tection on the pramises; <br /> <br /> NOW, THERk~ORE, BE IT EESOLVFD by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that architects, builders and developers be en- <br />couraged to make appropriate provisions in their desi~as, or otherwise, <br />to provide adequate fallout protection against nuclear radiation Lu the <br />event of nucIear attack, for the occupants and users of the buildings <br />or structures under consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT ~ RESOLVED that it shall be the policy of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia, to incorporate such protection to the <br /> fullest extent possible in newly constructed City oWned facilities, <br /> especially those that may be built in the areas ~ere a shortage 6f <br />· protection exists. <br /> <br /> BE IT. ~b~!Y~H~R P~SOL\~D tb~t such architects, builders and de- <br />velopers be informed of the availability of cost-free professional aid <br />through the office of the Civil Defense Coordinator, Cit~y of Portsmouth, <br />Virgil_ia, and be encouraged to utilize that-assistance in further~uce of <br />the objectives and purposes herein mmuounced. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of ,Portsmouth, Virgirda, at <br />a meeting held on September 8, 1970. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br /> <br />
