A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE EXTENSION OF VICTORY BOULEVARD TO <br />PORTSMOUTH BOULEVARD AND AUTHORIZI~G A REQUEST FOR FUNDS FROM <br />TA~ STATE HIGHWAY DEPART~ENT. <br /> <br /> ~IEREAS, the problem of traffic congestion at Alex- <br />ander's Corner is currently a matter of considerable difficulty <br />which may be expected to become more severe upon completion of <br />the Tower Mall Shopping Center; and <br /> <br /> ~ERF~AS, the City of Portsmouth Capital Improvement <br />Program includes plans for the extension of Victory Boulevard <br />to Portsmouth Boulevard; and <br /> ?~EREAS, the extension of Victory Boulevard is sanction- <br /> ed by the policies of the Southeastern Virginia Regional Planning <br /> Commission and is consistent with the Regional Transportation <br /> Plan; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has appropriated <br /> certain funds for support of the type of project now under~.con- <br /> slderation which funds may be made available upon due applica- <br /> tion by a qualified municipal corporation. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOI~ED by the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the proposed extension of <br /> Victory Boulevard to Portsmouth Boulevard is hereby approved <br /> and the cognizant officers and agents of the City of Portsmouth <br /> are directed to proceed with this project; and <br /> SE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City ~anager is here- <br /> by ~uthori~ed torequest from the State Highway Department the <br /> lungs necessary to support this improvement; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Portsmouth <br /> shall ~ay fifteen (15) per cent of the total project cost° <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br /> ginia, at a meeting held June 13, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
