A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH OVER TI~E LACE OF ADEQUATE PLANS TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE <br />SEWAGE FACILITIES FOR T~ Ct{URCHLAND AREA OF THE CITY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, is presently <br />experiencing a deficiency in the number and quality of housing <br />units available to its citizens; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, normal growth and the construction of resident- <br />ial units in the Churchland area of the City of Portsmouth should <br />partially alleviate the aforesaid deficiency; and <br /> <br /> W~IEREAS, timely construction of residential units in <br />the Churchland area depends, in part, u~pon the provision of ade- <br />quate sewage facilities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there seems to be a present lack of adequate <br />planning to provide for such facilities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the ~Iampton Roads Sanitation District is charged <br />with the responsibility of planning and providing sewage facilities <br />in Churchland; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the lack of adequate planning and the failure <br />to provide sewage facilities in a timely manner will inordinately <br />hinder residential unit construction in the Churchland area of this <br />City, such retarded growth being to the extreme detriment of th~ <br />citizens of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it hereby expresses its extreme con- <br />cern over the lack of plans for the provision of adequate sewage <br />facilities in the Churchland area of the City and that it strongly <br />urges that the Hampton Roads Sanitation District direct its immediate <br />attention to the planning for and the provision of sewage facilities <br />in the Churchland area of the City. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby di- <br />rected to forward a certified copy of this resolution to each of <br />the members of the Hampton Roads Sanitation District Commission <br />and to the General Manager and Chief Engineer of said Commission and <br />that such copies be tendered before the Commission's June 13th meeting. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held June 12, 1973. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
