A RESOLUTION URGING THE PRESIDENT OF T~tE UNITED STATES TO IM- <br />MEDIATELY ESTABLISH A PRIORITY ALLOCATION SYSTEM FOR THE SUPPLY <br />OF GASOLINE, DIESEL FUEL AND HEATING OILS TO MUNICIPALITIES SO <br />AS TO INSURE ADEQUATE SUPPLIES AT REASONABLE PRICES FOR THE <br />PROVISION OF ESSENTIAL PUBLIC SERVICES. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, municipalities of the area and the City of <br />Portsmouth are experiencing extreme difficulties in procuring <br />fuel required to provide essential public services; and <br /> ~q{EREAS, the cities of the area and the City of Ports- <br />mouth have been notified by fuel distributors that they will <br />not be supplied with gasoline for their needs after July 31, <br />1973; and <br /> WHEREAS, the failure to find adequate sources to <br />supply gasoline fuel will bring to a standstill numerous essen- <br />tial public servlces provided by the City of Portsmouth for the <br />health and safety of its citizenry. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it urges the President of the <br /> United States to ~mmediately establish a priority allocation <br /> system for gasoline, diesel fuel and heating oils in order to <br /> insure that municipalities are given adequate supplies at reason- <br /> able prices so that they can continue to provide essential public <br /> services to their citizens. <br /> DE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby <br /> directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Presi- <br /> dent of the United States, to the two senators from Virginia, and <br /> to the Honorable Robert ~. Daniel, Jr., the representative for <br /> the Fourth Congressional District in the Congress of the United <br /> States. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed <br /> to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of <br /> the Commonwealth of Virginia, for his information and possible <br /> action. <br /> Adopted by the council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br /> ginia, at a meeting held June 12, 1973. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
