A RESOLUTION URGI'NG T}[E STATE HIGLq^[AY DEPARTME~IT TO FILE AN <br />APPLICATiOI'~ FOR FUI~DS U~DER TL~ URBAN HIG-~i DE!~SITY PROVISIONS <br />OF THE 1973 FEDERAL }~.IGHWAY ACT, SUCH FUNDS TO EE UTILIZED FOR <br />THE ELIZABETH RIVER TUI[NELS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 1973 Federal ~ighway Act includes <br />provisions for each state to obtain funds for an additional ten <br />miles of interstate mileage under the Urban High Density <br />Provisions thereof; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the feeling of Council that the Eliz- <br />abeth River Tunnels and the area adjoining these tunnels fully <br />qualify for application of such funds as are available under <br />the Urban High Density Provisions of the 1973 Federal Highway <br />Act; and <br /> <br /> ?~EREAS, %he acquisition of such funds would assist <br /> in the retiring of such debt as been incurred for the construct- <br /> ion of such tunnels and would assist in the cost of cons%ruct- <br /> ion of future tunnels; and <br /> <br /> ¥~.~/TEREAS, funding from this source could relieve the <br />need for tolls being charged for use of said tunnels. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it hereby urges the State <br />Highway Department to file an application for funds under the <br />Urban High Density Provisions of 1973 Federal Highway Act, <br />such funds to be utilized for the Elizabeth River Tunnels. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held September 11, 1973. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
