A RESOLUTION URGING CERTAIN CANCELLED INTERSTATE ~IGHWAY ALLO- <br />~-~OLS TO P~E RE-ALLOCATED TO ~w ~ ,~- ~ <br /> ~ R~rO~z~D AD~I~ IO~AL TUNNEL <br />AND BRIDGE WHICH WILL CONNECT THE T ~ ~ <br /> E~Lm OF 1-264 SITUATED <br />IN NORFOLK AND PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth by resolution dated <br />May 13, 1975, has supported prcposal of the Virginia Commissioner <br />of Highways and Transportation for connecting the termini of <br />1-264 situate in the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHER~AS,.the U. S. Secretary of Transportation has <br />withdramm federal support for a seg/nent of approximately ten <br />(10) miles of interstate highway in northern Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Commissioner of Highways <br />Transportation may now seek to reallocate these ten (10) <br />miles of interstate highway. <br /> <br />and <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth that the Virginia Commissioner of Highways <br />and Transportation is ardently urged to real!ocate certain <br />cancelled interstate highway to the proposed additional tunnel <br />and bridge which will connect the termini of 1-264 situate <br />in the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURT~mR RESOLVED that the Virginia Co~missioner <br />of Highways and Transportation is urged to take suc~ steps as <br />necessary to reallocate certain cancelled interstate highways <br />to complete other gaps in the i ~ <br /> ntersuate system in the Hampton <br />Roads area. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed <br />to forward a copy of this resolution to the appropriate federal <br />and state authorities. ~ <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmoufh, Vir- <br />giniD, at a meeting held August 12, 1975. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
