2O <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE CITY COUNCIL OVER <br />THE REPEATED REQUESTS FOR INCREASED RATES BY PUBLIC UTILITIES; <br />REQUESTING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE STAFF OF THE STATE <br />CORPORATION COMMISSION TO STUDY, A~ EASED UPON SUCH STUDY, <br />TO REPRESENT THE INTERESTS OF THE CONSUMER-CITIZENS OF THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH; REQUESTING THE STATE CORPORATION COMMISSION <br />TO WEIGH THE INCREASED FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS PLACED UPON THE <br />CONSUMER-CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH; AND DIRECTING THE <br />CITY CLERK TO FORWARD COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE PROPER <br />OFFICIALS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, public utilities serving the consumer- <br />citizens of the City of Portsmouth are once more requesting <br />rate increases; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, .it is the legal duty of the Attorney General <br />of the Commonwealth of Virginia to represent the consumer- <br />citizens of Virginia in rate matters; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the legal duty of the staff of the <br />State Corporation Commission to study and make rate recommenda- <br />tions to the State Corporation Commission; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the legal duty of the State Corporation <br />Commission to fix fair and just rates for public utilities. <br /> <br /> NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Council expresses its <br />concern over' the repeated requests for increased rates by publi~ <br />utilities serving the consumer-citizens of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council requests the <br />Attorney General and the staff of the State Corporation Commissio~ <br />to study the repeated requests'for increased rates by public <br />utilities and to represent the interests of consumer-citizens of <br />the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council requests the <br />State Corporation Commission to weigh the increased financial <br />hardships placed upon the consumer-citizens of the city of <br />Portsmouth during the deliberation upon such requests. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is direct- <br />ed to forward this resolution to the proper officials. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouthf Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held March I1, 1975. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
