19 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE <br />PUBLIC SAFETY OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND <br />TIDEWATER, RESULTING FROM THE NUMEROUS RECENT ESCAPES FROM THE <br />JAIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH BY DANGEROUS PRISONERS; URGING <br />THAT THE S~ERIFF OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND OTHER RESPONSI- <br />BLE PUBLIC OFFICIALS TAKE WHATEVER ACTION IS ~CESSARY TO <br />STUDY AND CORRECT THE EXISTING DEFICIENCIES TO ELIMINATE SUCH <br />CONCERN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ recently a number of dangerous prisoners <br />have escaped from the jail Of the City of Port~outh; and <br /> ~EREA$, the residents of the City of Portsmouth and <br />Tidewater are concerned for the public safety as a result of <br />dangerous escaped prisoners being at large; and <br /> WHEREAS, the control of the security of the jail <br />is the responsibility of the Sheriff cf the City of Ports- <br />mouth~- <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Council does express <br />its grave concern for the public safety of the residents of <br />the City of Portsmouth and Tidewater resulting from the numerous <br />escapes from the jail of the City of Portsmouth by dangerous <br />prisoners. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council strongly <br /> urges that the Sheriff of the City of Portsmouth and other <br /> public officials take whatever action is necesssary to study <br /> and correct the existing deficiencies to eliminate such con- <br /> cern for public Safety. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virginia, at a meeting held March ll, 1975. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
