AP~4Y CORPS OF ENGINEERS ~ <br />REPORT CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF CP~ANEY ISIsIND; RECO.~'~PNDING <br />A~{ ENGII~EERING AND RELATED TECHNICAL STUDY RELATIVE TO <br />REGIONAL HARBOR NEEDS; AUTHORIZING TU_E CITY MJiNAGER TO FOR- <br />WARD SAID RESOLUTION TO ALL APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AGENCIES. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers on <br />December 6~ 1974 announced the completion of ~ report which <br />would extend the life of Craney island as a disposal area <br />by eleven years; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is necessary for the economic viability <br />of the City of Portsmouth that Craney Island become available <br />for industrial development; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Craney Island Study Co~ission opposes <br />said U. S. Corps of Engineers' Report concernzng the fu~u=e <br />of Craney Island~ and has resolved that an engineering and <br />related technical study be made by the U. S. Corps of Engineers <br />relative to regional harbor needs in the Greater Hampton <br />Roads area. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE iT RESOLVED by the Council that <br />it ardently opposes the U. S. Ar~y Corp of Engineers' Report <br />concerning the future of Craney Island announced on Dece~er <br />6, 1974. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council recommends <br />the U. S. Corps of Engzneers to conduct an engineering and <br />related technical study relative to the regional harbor needs <br />in the Greater Hampton Roads area. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is <br />directed to forward this resolution to all appropriate federal <br />agencies. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held January 28, 1975. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City ~lerk <br /> <br /> <br />
